Monday morning we all prepared for a long drive. Destination: Canberra. Canberra is the capital of Australia, so when my host parents wanted to show me an Australian city, they decided to take me there. I’m very curious.
No surprise, the drive was beautiful. I really enjoy staring into the vastness of this country while exploring different places. The one and only change I saw in the landscape, were the hills that added to my interest.
The only change from the big road to the freeway, was that there are more cars around Canberra, other than that the nature keeps on surrounding us.
We are staying in a lovely cabin just outside of Canberra and it is really nice.

Tuesday
AIS
Australian Institute of Sport

In this building, the next Australian Olympians are trained and taken care of. We got a fun guided tour and I was amazed by the services they provide. If you think about it, it’s not surprising giving the natural talent they have to have and the sacrafices professional athletes have to make.

Wednesday
Questacon
If you liked Technopolis in Mechelen, then you will like Questacon in Canberra! This National Museum of Science and Technology is very interesting and surprising too. They have lots of different exhibitions which we all enjoyed.

Parliament House
In the afternoon, we met up with a family member who works at the Parliament House. This man gave us a extensive tour of this important building and explained to us all kinds of different things. It was really interesting and I absolutely loved the architecture and the thought behind it all. You can see they put a lot of effort into this building.
It is a bit further from the city center, which gives you an amazing view over Canberra.

Mount Ainslie
On this hill, we got a nice feeling on how big and vast Canberra really is. It is actually the one and only city in ACT, Australian Capital Territory.

Afternoon tea
At the end of the day, it’s nice to have some quiet time with a nice cupper and some bickies!

This city is nothing like I expected, but then nothing so far has been what I had expected, so unless I manage to adapt my expectations, I will be amazed every time again and I love it!
Friday
Back in Griffith
Nancy Blumer Awards
After school this Friday, my host mom and I went to town for a last visit to the theatre, this time for a quest between young musicians. They were all very talented and I enjoyed every performance. I would not want to be the one who has to decide who gets the award! The judge was very nice though, he gave everyone the good advice to create their own style and to remember the performance starts before getting on stage and only ends after you sat back down. Congratulations for everyone who participated!
Weekend
The weekend was nice, I met up with some friends, because next week we will all be busy studying for the prelims. How fun…
