Some First Times and Some Last Times
By Sarah
- 2 minutes read - 340 wordsThis week the realisation that it is almost over has made it difficult sometimes. I don’t want it to be the last time I get to do some of these things, but there is really nothing I can do apart from enjoying and savouring every little moment.
NAIDOC
Our school celebrated NAIDOC week this Monday, because when the observance is held in July, there is no school. The activities were for year 7 to 10, but when I had a free I joined in with some year 7’s playing emu and launching tennisballs at a wooden kangaroo and emu. It was pretty fun.
In the air

There is still so much to explore here. This week, someone I met from one of my presentations, gave me the amazing opportunity to fly above Griffith. He and his mate own an airplane and his mate is an instructor who took me up in the air. It is wonderful to see this town from above and I was still amazed by all the ’empty’ farmland that surrounds us. I still can’t fully comprehend how big everything is here.
It was very cool. I also got to see an airambulance, those planes get called in an emergency and land wherever they are needed to transport patients that need a specialist for example. The flying doctors come here too sometimes, but I haven’t seen them.

I am so grateful for this impressive experience!
Blue Tree Foundation
Friday during lunch, the year 12’s organised a fund raiser for the Blue Tree Foundation, who prevent youth suicide. They painted a tree -you’ll never guess- blue and everyone was allowed to wear blue casual clothing. There was a sausage sizzle and some delicious pastries to be bought to support this organisation. There was fun music and it was a whole celebration!
They usually organise fun fund raisers like this, when we in Belgium would do a waffle.
Last times
Last assembly, last roll call, last lessons…
We’re in exam-mode now!
Last hill run, last time going to church…
